Camera Liberated!!!

As some of you know, we finally moved into our Italian apartment in Vomero.  Vomero is an absolutely stunning area of Naples that sits up on a hill and overlooks the rest of the city.  Not only is the area beautiful, but it’s full of amazing shops, restaurants, art galleries, museums, 7 gelato shops within a 2 block radius…you name it, it’s here.  The only little teeny sacrifice one has to make to live in such an area is living space. Not really a big deal as you have the whole city as your backyard, but it’s kind of a big deal when you move in and the movers don’t come again for two weeks to pick up your boxes that are blocking any free space in your apartment.   Anyway, for the past two weeks, my camera has been stuck in a cabinet behind said boxes.  It’s been driving me crazy!  Inspiration will strike and then I’ll remember, oh right, my camera is stuck in a closet.  We kept calling the movers and they kept saying, “Be patient”.  Resigning myself to the fact that the movers were never going to come and rid our house of the boxes stuffed with paper piled to the top of our 15 foot ceilings, I plead my camera case to Nathan and he gallantly tackled the box wall and rescued my camera from its prison.  I was so excited!  I almost immediately took it out and took these photos of my favorite little model.

The two photos above don’t have any post process editing.  They’re just taken with a ziploc bag over my lens.  Thanks to my new friend and amazing photographer, Liisa Roberts. for the awesome photography hack.

Location Idea: Castel St. Elmo

I scoped out this location today to see if it would work for a photo shoot I have tomorrow.  It’s AMAZING!  Not only is it a castle, but it has a 360 view of Napoli.  Can’t you picture your next photo shoot here?  Peeking up through the parapets, posing in the narrow staircases and looking out over the bay?*
*Ingresso to Castel St. Elmo is 5 Euros per adult over the age of 18.  The price of admission is not included in a photo session and is at the client’s expense.

Location Ideas: Capodimonte

I thought I’d do a few blog posts on location ideas to inspire you for your photo session.  So there are like a million amazing places around Naples and I’ve only been to a few.  As a photographer, it comes in pretty handy to be familiar with said amazing places so they can be utilized in photo shoots.  Yesterday I packed up Scarlett and we went to a place I’ve passed on the Tangenziale (Toll Road Through Naples) time and again and have wanted to stop, but hadn’t until now.  Capodimonte Museum and Park.  It’s beautiful!  I felt like I was in a Jane Austen Novel…but placed somewhere warmer and slightly tropical… I guess I should have just felt like I was in Italy.  Anyway, the park is beautiful and there’s a spectacular Bourbon Palazzo on the grounds.  I didn’t explore quite as much as I’d hoped as about 15 minutes into our adventure Scarlett met a new friend and they played in the same 100 square meters for about an hour and a half, running around like little maniacs.  Fortunately I did manage to get a few shots. Then it was lunchtime and we had to leave. At least these photos will give you a taste of the beauty that is Capodimonte.

Can’t you see your next family photo shoot here?
I had to add this last photo, not because it’s a good photo, but because it’s proof of this bizarre phenomenon.  Scarlett has been a total mamma’s girl her whole life.  If I was around and someone wanted to hold her there was no way she would allow it!  She may be fine for a second, but as soon as that second was over she’d jump in my arms.  For some reason, however, she becomes fast friends with any Italian that shows an interest in her.  She met this lady literally 5 minutes before this picture was taken.

Scarlett Turns 2

First off, welcome to my new website!

Moving on to my favorite subject, my little girl.  Well, it’s happened. My sweet baby girl has turned 2! I know every mother says this, but it seems like yesterday I held her in my arms for the first time. Now she’s her own little person. Her favorite things right now are coloring, jumping, singing and getting really bent out of shape if things don’t go her way.  She actually turned two while we were visiting Rome and I had big plans to do a photo shoot there, but due to inclement weather and an overall feeling of being completely done with the trip, that plan failed.  A couple days ago we took a day trip to Sorrento and it took my breath away.  The pictures that follow are what transpired there.
